Update for 2025

In 2002 the most likely attack was a plane loaded with explosives crashing into the building that holds of reactor vessel.

In 2025 the most likely attack is an EMP devise detonated at 10,000 feet, raised by a balloon.

This would be a glass tube filled with C4 wrapped with several miles of copper wire powered by a battery with many volts and amps.

The wire is exploded.

The result is a massive EMP pulse.

The pulse wipes out the electronics that manage the reactor.

The manual back-ups are not ready for use.

The 12 inch emergency pipes are tagged shut.

The Operator has no idea how to operate the manual backup systems.

The reactor melts down.

The Containment dome blows off.

The radioactive plume drifts here and there.

Nobody knows how to do evacuate.

The roads are logged.

Unreadiness prevails …. as usual.

Bad outcomes happen …. as usual.

So the update is that nothing has changed except the manner of attack.

We are as unready in 2025 as we were in 2002.

23 years went by …. that’s the update.
