The Copper Penny is About to Disappear

.It is illegal to melt down your copper pennies and make them into Copper Ingots, and yet people are doing it. The value of the copper in an all-copper penny is about 3 cents.

Copper can be used in electronics and chips.

It is a very good conductor.

It has industrial value.

People will do what people will do.

The government cannot keep the air traffic controllers on duty, so it cannot stop people frm melting their all copper pennies.

The effect on the economy will be very low. Pennies today are mostly zinc, and have only a thin plating of copper.

Zinc is cheap. The government can replace the copper pennies easily.

Or, it could just go to steel pennies.
