If nuclear waste was going to be stored in Auxiliary Buildings (on site) nuclear power became totally hazardous because that easy target could be hit at anytime by a missile, or plane.
The local politics (Not in My Backyard) defeated the federal strategy. Nobody noticed. Business went on as usual. All waste went to the AUX buildings (on site).
Yucca Mountain needs to be re-authorized. Local politics needs to be supremacied out of the way.
No Judge had the guts to get the law right.
We are now at war with at least three nations.
All of which have missiles.
Re-open Yucca, or phase out fission based nuclear power.
