He was a Devout Christian Baptist. He talked my mother into having me. It was like a rescue. He made sure she was able to raise me. He made sure I got the same good education that his own kids got.
He held me at St. James church for my baptism.
He made sure the Anglican Bishop of Lausanne confirmed me.
I had a good 80 years of life.
Now I am a little broken up inside. I don’t feel entirely whole. I feel damaged. But at 80, most people are a bit damaged. Life is an ordeal. You don’t come through it completely unscathed, unless you are very lucky.
The Saint rescued my mother in 1947, and me in 2005.
I was lucky to find Hagerstown, a place of many good people.
Most of my ancestors lived at least 100 years. That could happen in my case as well.
My natural father was French and never came to USA or spoke in English.
My American ancestors were Scottish and had the Half Circle G Ranch which included much of what is now called East L.A. and they also owned some of Carmel CA, and some of San Francisco CA.
We came through the 1907 Pandemic due to the Ranch which gave us water and food and a safe place outside of all towns. We are listed in the 1910 Census. The family name then was “George” or “Wheeler”. Ralph George married Juanita Wheeler. He married way above his station in life. Wheeler was a very well established California family with gold mines from the 1849 gold rush.
The Saint was a barnstormer (aviator) who took my mother along flying through barns. He had Pilot life insurance, like most pilots did in the day. His policy allowed him to name beneficiaries on an ongoing basis, at any time. So, I was a rescue, from kindness, and goodness, of an aviator, and Saint. My mother was his first rescue, and I was his second rescue. He surely must have gone to heaven for his deeds in life. He also was a devout Baptist with faith.
