I had a milrind, not a wig. I was skilled in many Courts. Navy trained me in diplomacy. They knew I was always lucky with Judges.
I always told the unvarnished truth. I always did what I could to PREVENT (not to cause) a Judicial error.
Many lawyers like to create a mess so that an appeal is easy.
I tried to protect the Judge, so that no appeal would be necessary — the Judge would rule in my favor.
Getting trusted was my ONLY objective.
Not spouting some sort of law stuff to the Judge.
The JAG of the Navy wrote all my briefs.
I signed and file them with a knowledge of 1% of the law stuff they had in them.
I NEVER suggested to any Judge that I knew anything about law.
I was trusted. Because they could see my desire to protect them.
And my 100% candor.
I was never “clever” enough to do tricks on the Judge.
I was 100% on the level, 100% of the time. I was trained as a Barrister not as a Shyster. To be a Trusty Guy, not a Tricky Guy.
My Lawschool was in Hollywood in LA and mostly good on copyrights, patents, and Intellectual Property (like in shows).
Southwestern University back in the day graduated almost 1/3 of the lawyers in California.
Most of my JAG work was to establish the pee test as valid. I was skilled in particle physics, hence the mass spectrograph and the gas chromatograph.
The Navy paid my Business School tuition after I retired as a JAG.
If a Navy Person Was Held in a Foreign Nation, My Job was to Get Him or Her Back Into US Custody.
