JAGs could be assigned many kinds of duties on a temporary basis.

In the Navy I was an acting asst. supply officer for about a week in Guam and at Subic Bay. I obtained steel drums that could be cut in half to make barbecue stoves, so cooking could be done outside on the fantail of ships. This allowed sailors to be fed outside and get good, just cooked meat, from barbecue cooking.
