I was trained to be a scientist, with Chemistry as my first love. But, my interests turned to poetry, and history, and political movements. So, I your link to the 1950’s and the 1960’s because I was really a part of those times. I can tell you that modernity arose from architecture. It was modern buildings that led the way. The Seagrams Building, the Pan Am building, the Woolworth Building, and the Empire State Building. Residences by Frank Lloyd Wright and Adolf Loos, and Le Corbusier were the icebreakers that opened the way into modernity. Paintings by Picasso. Poems by T.S Eliot and EE Cummings. I recited poems by Lawrence Ferlinghetti as well. My job was Poetry reader at Cafe Basement, on McDougal Street across from Purple Onion and from The Wha! Peter Paul and Mary sang at the Purple Onion — they came over and heard my poems.
