Getting rid of bad people by killing them, could make the world a better place, with less bad people in it. But public executions do not deter crime, and their effect on the viewers is to brutalize them. If you have watch people being killed on your TV that does not make you are more kind and more gentle person. The difference between murder and an execution is all tangled up with very subtle and complex legal arguments which somebody can probably understand but not me. I can’t follow them. So, it’s kinda like a murder on TV. Doing that is not a good thing. It harms the population. It does not guide people in their conduct. It makes people hard and brutal in their psyche. That is an intrinsically bad thing. You may feel that I am the ONLY trained ethicist who could possibly see this point. But I claim that there are at least 735 others, on a global basis, and perhaps even 53 in USA. Reason has no value compared to apps on your Smartphone, and I bring you no apps, so just block me.
